Quality, Customised Trailers Engineered for You

At Trailers Only, we love building trailers that solve problems. We’ve been at it for 20 years, and we understand just how important it is for our customers to have the right trailer for the job. When we design and build a custom made trailer in Melbourne, we do it with your job and your list of requirements in mind at all times.

Our team designs and engineers each trailer with precision. We only use high quality steel that delivers excellent performance and reliability for our clients in equipment hauling, construction, agriculture and many other industries. It’s this dedication that’s made the Trailers Only name synonymous with delivering excellent trailers.

We don’t simply use pre-built bases for our custom projects. We’ll build from scratch, working carefully with you in the idea and design phase first to make sure everything is perfect before any steel is laid down. Every project is overseen by our qualified civil and mechanical engineer and we use the latest tech to manufacture trailers that are built to last.

How We Work

Our Process for Designing & Building Tough Trailers

STEP 1

Initial Consult

During our initial meeting, our senior engineer will be present to assess your requirements. We have an in-depth discussion to consider:

LOAD – what exactly do you need to haul?

TRANSIT – how long and how often will you be in transit?

SPECS – what are the exact measurements of your load; what is the weight; are there any variables required for flexibility?

ROUTE – What route will you be travelling with your trailer? Are there any height and weight restrictions that we need to consider?

TERRAIN – Does your trailer need to enter a work site or tough terrain?

ATMOSPHERE – Will your trailer be spending a lot of time outdoors, near any chemicals or salt water; in hot or cold temperatures?

EXTRAS – Do you have any other special add-ons such as gas, electricity or plumbing?

STEP 2

Preliminary Sketches

After asking all the right questions, our engineering team considers a number of potential options for your needs. We present some preliminary sketches of what the trailer design could look like and discuss potential materials, construction and finishes.

STEP 3

Trailer Design

Upon agreement, our engineering team works on developing the blue prints for your custom trailer design. Allow a couple of weeks back and forth for tweaks and adjustments until the final design is drawn up.

STEP 4

Production

Upon sign off on the trailer design and once we agree on the production timeline, we begin building your custom trailer, which generally takes between 4 to 6 weeks depending on the specifications.

STEP 5

Workshop Visit

We will organise a time for you to visit our workshop during the construction of your trailer. We invite you to meet our team and speak to our engineers to check first hand on the progress of your trailer.

STEP 6

Delivery

Once your trailer is complete, we run all necessary safety checks and take care of the paper work, getting your trailer number plates and registration organised for you. We can deliver your trailer to you or invite you to pick it up from our factory.

STEP 7

Service & Maintenance

We schedule your trailer for a regular service to maintain safety standards and ensure your trailer is operating at peak performance.

Our simplified process is designed to get an in depth understanding of your requirements early on, so that production runs smoothly, easily and efficiently.

Who Are Our Custom Trailers For?

If you’re looking for the perfect way to haul, display, cook on or carry something, we can build a trailer for it. Our Dandenong team designs and builds custom trailers for businesses, tradies, hire yards and individual owners across Melbourne and Australia, and every build starts with how you’ll actually use it.

Plant and machinery transport makes up the bulk of our trailer orders. We build heavy-duty machinery transport trailers for hire yards, manufacturers, construction crews and excavation companies who need a platform that’s tough, safe and made for the job. However, we build customised transport trailers for all kinds of businesses and operations.

Some of the other customised trailers we build include:

Generator trailers for moving and powering large generators on site.
BBQ trailers for caterers, clubs, fundraisers and event operators.
Advertising trailers that turn your brand into a rolling billboard.
Tradesman trailers with racking, storage and tie-downs set up for your tools and materials.
Car transport trailers for race teams, dealers, collectors and tow operators.
Tipper trailers for earthmoving, soil, gravel, demolition and general site clean-up work
Enclosed trailers that keep tools, stock, equipment and event gear secure and out of the weather
Landscaping trailers built for mowers, pavers, mulch, green waste and everything else a busy landscaper carries
Flat top trailers for pallets, timber, building materials and oversized loads that need a clean, versatile deck

Don’t see your idea on the list? No worries! We love bringing unusual ideas and designs to life, and we’re very good at it. Whatever you’ve got in mind, there’s a great chance we can design and build it for you.

Tradie Trailers

Quality Trailers, Built By Experts

Your trailer should be made for you. At Trailers Only, we design and build every customised trailer around the work you do, your load and your tow vehicle, so it does the job properly from day one to day one thousand and beyond.

We always use tough, durable materials and take our time getting the welds, the frame and the finish right. The result is a trailer that can handle heavy loads, stands up to Aussie roads and Melbourne’s changeable weather, and keeps working for you year after year. For our clients, that means fewer repairs, less downtime and a trailer that holds its value no matter what you put it through.

Our tailored approach to each project also means a trailer that’s simply a better fit. With an off-the-shelf model, you’ll end up with headaches… there will be loads that don’t quite fit, tie-down points in not quite the right place, and storage that doesn’t suit your gear. With a custom build, the deck size, axle setup, load rating, tie-downs and storage are all matched to what you want to carry. You and your team can load faster, tow safely and get more done in a day. Overall, that’s better for everyone involved.

Our Dandenong workshop is easy to visit, so you can talk through your idea with the people who’ll actually build it. You get straight advice, a clear quote and a trailer that’s built right, then delivered across Victoria or Australia-wide.

Choose a trailer that’s truly built for you and your work.

Full custom, there's nothing they couldn't do, really really happy with the result. As my business grows, I'll be back to get more trailers.

FAQs About Custom Trailers

Why should I choose a local custom trailer manufacturer over buying a standard pre-built model?

When you buy a standard model from a dealership, you are often forced to adapt your workflow to the trailer. By working directly with experienced custom trailer manufacturers, you get a solution engineered specifically for your exact load, towing vehicle, and daily operations. Because we build everything from the ground up, there is no middleman, saving you time, money, and the frustration of modifying an off-the-shelf product.

Do you build all of your custom trailers in Melbourne?

Yes, we do. We are proud to design, engineer, and manufacture all of our custom trailers in Melbourne at our Dandenong South facility. Because everything is handled locally, our clients can actually visit the workshop during production, speak directly with our civil engineer, and inspect the heavy-duty Australian steel and craftsmanship firsthand before their trailer rolls out the door.

Are your custom trailers compliant with Victorian transport regulations?

Absolutely. Every custom trailer we build is engineered to meet and exceed stringent Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and local transport standards. Whether you are hauling heavy machinery across Victoria or navigating tight city worksites, our custom trailers are engineered for ultimate safety, and we even take care of the registration and paperwork for you upon delivery.

Do you build custom ute trays, canopies, or modify vehicles?

While we are expert custom trailer manufacturers, we specialise exclusively in towable trailers. We do not build, install, or modify ute trays, canopies, or perform direct vehicle modifications. However, if you are looking to maximise your hauling capacity with a heavy-duty custom trailer built specifically to tow behind your ute, we can absolutely design and manufacture that for you from the ground up!

Can you build a custom trailer to match my vehicle’s specific towing capacity?

Yes! One of the biggest advantages of working with local custom trailer manufacturers in Melbourne is that we don’t just sell you a standard box. Our engineers will look at your specific tow vehicle, calculate the Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) and Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) you require, and engineer a solution that ensures you are towing safely, legally, and efficiently.

Do you build custom trailers for specific trades or commercial businesses?

Absolutely. We work with a broad range of businesses across Victoria. Whether you need a highly specific enclosed tradesman setup, a flatbed with custom tie-down points, or a specialised unit for facilities management, we design and build custom trailers tailored completely to your daily workflow and equipment dimensions.
